There was a Richtofen biopic a few years ago, I can't recommend it because I opted out as soon as I read that they'd written a face to face relationship of some sort between MvR and Brown! Ridiculous. Flyboys is a mess; a few good period moments here and there, some nice shots of Nieuport 17's on the flightline in the mist...but a total blowoff of the actual history of the Lafayette Escadrille with none of the real pilots portrayed and, yes, tons of laughable CGI. The Blue Max is excellent if you don't mind a central character who's a complete jerk. The gold standard titles are still Wings, Hell's Angels, both versions of The Dawn Patrol and, I agree, The Great Waldo Pepper. It really is the best of the bunch despite being set post-war. The depiction of Ernst Udet is brilliant. There's a ton of others from the early sound years like The Eagle and the Hawk, Ace of Aces, even Charles Nungesser himself starred in a silent film called The Sky Raider while over here doing airshows and stunt flying in Wings. Depending on how powerful your computer is you should look into the game Rise of Flight. It's an amazing piece of work, as close as you'll get to a sense of what it must have been like to fly in The Great War.
