You might need Z's help your posts are a little different. I noticed I can't quote or instant reply. Maybe it has something to do with it? and your text runs off screen.

In my opinion, to be respected, a good pilot should use decent language too.

An hour or so ago I was in a game where two of the players tried out all the four-letter words and insults they could think of on one another.

I do not think they meant much of it seriously, but it made the whole game quite unpleasant, and made them sound like stupid, immature 13 year-olds, which for all I know they may in fact be.

I think we should respect the work Z has put down on making this a popular game, and avoid filling it with abusive words as if it were a public lavatory wall.

When I played this game the first few times, there seemed to be some sort of filter that picked up the commonest abusive words and substituted *** or something for them.

Am I wrong, or has the filter been removed?

I could not agree more - I was also in that game for a short while - I was totally surprised at the language - maybe done in immature jest or what ever, but sort of popped the bubble for me as one of them has a very high skill level and ranking - for me a little sad and a letdown.

On a different note, it is really fun for me to be in a game with the top level players - and I have noted more than once friendliness and help suggestions (from the opposition!) which makes the game even more fun. However both my typing skills and quickness to the keyboard while playing are not great - barely able to manage a '!' in acknowledgement...

I don't care if someone uses a word or two. Zuperman is the same.

It's just when I start seeing:

"Hey **** wat u **** **** ***** ***** ***** a ******* **** ****** **** with a bucket and **** *** ****** **** *** **** **** ***** ****** bottle of sand ******* *** ******* **** ******** ******** **** ***** bullets ********* *******. *****."

That's when I have a problem. But I just mute them. And within a day or two I'll hear:

"DUDE SLENDRMAN Y DID U MUTE ME I DINT DO NOTHIN PLZ PLZ PLZ UNMUTE ME I DINT KNO U WER MOD"

I always give several chances. So if you ever see anyone asking about me unmuting them; tell them they had plenty of chances.

Well, yes, I thought you might be thirteen, - at any rate that's how I have read your in-forum name . You're a fast and dangerous player, one of those who down me 99 times out of a hundred.

I was not out to offend anyone, be they 13 or 30. I was just thinking of some people whose mouths seem to grow at a faster pace than their good judgement.

Now, of course swearing is not a great problem in Dogfight.

Still, it was strange to witness how the use of foul language degraded the atmosphere of the game, - a game that many of us have come to appreciate for its many excellent players, -good pilots who are also friendly, helpful, and yes - polite.

Needless to say, it will always be the users themselves, much more than the enforcement of rules of conduct, that make a game interesting and challenging.

The easiest person to change is oneself, so the best way of keeping up the quality of the game is probably just to always act in a reasonable way towards friends and enemies alike, so that people wish you welcome rather than quitting the game when they see your name on the list.

Every time I hear a person use insulting language i always say

It's ok, veidar. I was just stating a fact By the way, Slenderman. GeneralDRS was bad mouthing qaz and I and we were wondering if you could warn him. We told him that if he didn't stop, we would ask you to mute him but he just swore again I hope he will stop, he's a kinda proud guy if you know what I mean. He also used ***** once instead of saying something.

Lol you got to look for the period that separates slender man and general drs.

I do the same as Slenderman. One or two expletives are no big deal, depending on context. But if someone is going full pottymouth, they will get a "pacifier" and be muted. And they'll have to wait to be in-game with me or another moderator to get un-muted (and that could take days!).

Hopefully I'll be able to play more soon to give some more coverage.

I love this question! Great post! I once played with this guy named Maximus desicus. It was that or some other form of that name. Amazing player, although I haven't seen him in a long time. I remember him more than anyone. Awesomely friendly, great conversations. We play with so many different people its hard for us newbies to remember them all. But he stood out to me the most.

First I want to say that this is just partial list because I'm sure other names will come to mind later. Almost afraid to do this for fear of leaving out some folks. Ok, Helldawg, Swopwith Camel, Big Tex, and this next guy has one of those names that has a mix of different symbols but, I am sure you will know who I am talking about. His name has "DX29" in it with some symbols mixed in such as "#@&x. He is a great guy though. I also want to mention Cptn Fugate although we have not played together as often. Like I siad, there are many others as well.
